M. Hughes Sr., 84 EAST NEW MARKET - Herbert (Hub) McGlaughlin Hughes Sr., 84, of East New Market, Md., passed away March 24, 2012, at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. Born on Feb. 29, 1928, in Andrews, he was a son of the late Herman and Bertie McGlaughlin Hughes. On July 5, 1950, Herbert married his wife of 62 years, the former Alice L. Bryan. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. After a brief tenure with Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Hub continued his love of working on the water for over forty years. The past sixteen years he had been employed by Warwick Behavior Health as a driver. He worked until his health forced him to retire February of this year. Hub was a member of the Moose Lodge 1211 and the Maryland Waterman's Association. Hub enjoyed going to the flea market on the weekend and taking his grandsons. He also enjoyed watching country and gospel music shows on TV with his wife Alice, but what Hub enjoyed most was to work. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, a son, Herbert Hughes Jr. and his wife Kathy of Bel Air; two daughters, Darlene Ausmussen and her husband Mickey of East New Market, and Debbie Lewis and her husband Buddy of Hurlock; a sister, Irene Gootee of Golden Hill; and brother, Joseph Hughes of Cambridge; four grandsons, Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Leon Lewis Jr. and Levin Lewis Sr.; and great-grandsons Levy Lewis Jr. and Luke Brian Hughes. Preceding him in death was a brother, Irving Jones. Serving as pallbearers will be Leon Lewis Jr., Levin Lewis Sr., Levy Herbert Lewis Jr., Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Gary Hughes and David VanSchiek. Funeral Services will be held on today, March 28, 2012, beginning 2 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. Family will receive friends two hours prior to service. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Officiating will be Pastor George Ames and Steve Bloodsworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Herbert may be sent to Wesley Chapel Church, c/o Priscilla Andrews, 309 Crusader Rd. Apt. 4, Cambridge, MD.
