DOVER - Herbert Bradley Parkes passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Herb was born on August 3, 1942, to Edna and Herbert Parkes in South Amboy, NJ. He grew up in Parlin, NJ, graduating from Sayreville High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Music from Westminster Choir College and a Master of Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary School of Music. He also earned an Associate Degree in Computer Programming from El Paso Community College.
Herb was an extraordinarily talented musician and organist. Over his long career he served as Organist/Choir Director for churches of various denominations in New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, Rhode Island and, finally, in Delaware. He also directed community choruses, worked in amateur musical theater, and was the accompanist for El Paso Pro-Musica for many years. He also worked briefly as a high school choral teacher, computer programmer and project leader, but music and the organ were his primary loves.
His additional interests were traveling, and collecting antique music boxes, model trains, and diecast models.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Allison Davis Parkes.
Services will be held Saturday, February 8 at 10:00AM at Christ Episcopal Church, Milford, DE.
