SALISBURY - Henry Barnes Ames died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born at Kings Creek, he was the son of the late Charles Bruce Ames Sr. and Helen Barnes Ames. He is predeceased by brothers, Charles Bruce Ames, Jr. and Robert King Ames; and sister, Mary Louise Ames Smith. He is survived by a nephew, Gregory Thomas French; and other nieces and nephews. He graduated from Washington High School in Princess Anne and attended one semester at Beacom College in Wilmington before being inducted into the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943. He served for four years in World War II and in Occupation Austria. He achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant and was awarded one of the earliest Army Commendation Medals by Gen. Mark Clark. In 1948, he began a 31-year career with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, D.C., as geodetic technician. All services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
