MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. - Harriet Arlene (Jones) Foxwell passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester in Cambridge, Md. She spent the last several months as a resident of Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, W. Gerald Foxwell. In addition, she is survived by her two younger sisters, Sandra Saulsbury of Mardela Springs and Kay Gambrill of Hebron, Md.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by one son, Brice and Stacey Foxwell of Westminster, Md.; two grandsons, Dane and Stacie Foxwell of Fort Myers, Fla. and Reid Foxwell of Glen Burnie, Md.; and three great grandchildren, Sophia, Isabelle and James Foxwell of Fort Myers, Fla.
She was also a devoted aunt to Joby and Mary Saulsbury of Mardela Springs, Md., Jeff and Vickie Saulsbury of Federalsburg, Md. and Vickie and Al Evans of Spanish Fort, Ala.
Mrs. Foxwell was born Jan. 23, 1938 in Mardela Springs, Md. to the late Granville and Pauline (Bailey) Jones. She graduated from Mardela High School in 1956.
She worked for The Prudential Insurance Company for nearly 40 years and served as the Office Manager in the Salisbury Office for many of those years. After retiring, she worked as a school bus aide to children with special needs.
An active member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, she served as Treasurer for more than 60 years.
She was an avid cook as anyone who ever attended one of the famous Mardela Fire Department chicken and dumpling dinners can tell you. She made the dumplings for those dinners for over 50 years often making more than 100 pounds of dough for each dinner. She thoroughly enjoyed volunteering her time with other members of the community.
Cooking was a big part of her life. She won the Delmarva Chicken Cooking Contest as a teenager and took great pleasure in cooking for family and friends throughout her entire life. She enjoyed flipping through cookbooks and trying new recipes. She was especially proud of her collection of over 1000 cookbooks from all over the United States and if anyone needed a particular recipe, she would be sure to get a call. She published two cookbooks as fundraisers for her church and helped on numerous others.
In her spare time, she also enjoyed painting, fishing and sewing. She made most of her clothes growing up and did alterations and repairs for many.
She and her husband took several memorable trips including Alaska and the Panama Canal but loved the community of Athol where she spent her entire life more than any place in the world. You would often find her sitting at her kitchen counter talking and telling stories about the good old days with friends and family.
A funeral service will be held on July 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, Ms. Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mardela Springs Cemetery.

Arrangements are being made in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A. 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
