PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Haroldine McGrath Tyler passed from natural causes at age 80 on February 14, 2014 at home. Born and raised on the family farm in Mt. Vernon, Md. she was the daughter of the late Harold James and Eva Beauchamp McGrath. She graduated from Washington High School in 1951 and from the Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 as a Registered Nurse. She went on to a 46 year nursing career, all on the night shift at PGH and Peninsula Regional Medical Center, with 26 years of service as a Supervisor. Haroldine was, and is, a guiding light for the many who shared her journey. Her nature is described by words such as aware, determined, positive and above all generous. She kept faith that given time and love, people will find their way, and no sooner. She enjoyed equally the festiveness of a good party and the solitude of a good book. Her rendition of Sweet Georgia Brown as a teenager was still fondly remembered at her 60th high school reunion, and her family fondly remembers bringing the donkey into the house for a photograph under the Christmas tree. She did a lot; climbed the farm windmill, raised chickens, drove the tractor, ran the hospital at night, attended college, raised a family, kept her grandchildren every chance she got and in her retirement documented her family's history. Haroldine's passing was preceded by that of her husband of 40 years, Brice Tyler, in 1995. She is survived by her son, Robin McGrath Tyler, his wife Frieda Fisher-Tyler and their children Daniel and Melissa of Magnolia, Delaware; her daughter, Crystal Tyler McCubbin and her husband Mark McCubbin of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania; her brother, Gary McGrath Sr. and his companion Frieda Potter of Princess Anne, Maryland; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Good people will be remembered as a blessing (Proverbs 10:7) and she was indeed both. At this time she could be expected to quote Dr. Suess, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened". She requested that the following poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye be shared here as her farewell: Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints on snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight I am the soft stars that shine at night Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there, I did not die A celebration of Haroldine's life will be held 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the banquet room of the Princess Anne, Md. Fire Hall, 11794 Somerset Avenue, 21853. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department.
