He was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Robbins, Md., son of William Parks and Lorraine Abbott. He attended schools in Dorchester County and resided in Robbins with his family as a youth and left to serve his country as an Army paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and later as a proud United States Marine until January of 1954. He was an avid hunter and sportsman who loved spending endless hours in the woods hunting and training his beagles. His passion was attending flea markets and auctions where he could be found most any Wednesday or Saturday morning. He loved most anything dealing with the water. In 1950, he married his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Joan Neal. They resided in Cambridge where they raised their surviving three children, Daniel Lloyd, Jody Harold and Shelley Suzanne Abbott.
