SALISBURY - Gerald "Jerry" Thomas McGinty died Fri., Feb. 13, 2015, at Coastal Hospice At the Lake. Born on Jul. 11, 1934, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he was the son of the late James C. McGinty and Helen B. McGinty. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury and a U.S. Army veteran. He attended King's College in Wilkes-Barre and worked as a Physical Education teacher in the Baltimore school system from 1956-58. He left teaching to pursue a career in the retail industry, working for Robert Hall for 10 years. He came to the Eastern Shore, where he managed multiple Hess Apparel clothing stores from 1968 through 1993. After leaving Hess Apparel, he used his business prowess to start up two business ventures with his sons. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary E. McGinty; five sons, Gerald T. McGinty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kevin P. McGinty of Key West Fla., Martin T. McGinty of Baltimore, Brian C. McGinty of Salisbury, Gavin M. McGinty of Berlin; a daughter, Molly Simpson of Port Tobacco, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A memorial mass was held on Sat., Feb. 21, 2015, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Interment was at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
