George Gary McLain, 79
George Gary McLain died peacefully at Charlotte Hall Veterans' Home on May 1, 2024.
He was born in Towson, MD, and studied at Towson University, earning both an undergraduate and a master's degree in Social Work. He worked for a time in Child Welfare Services in Baltimore.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he specialized in submarine support.
As a devout Catholic, George explored becoming a priest. He studied at Conception Seminary College at Conception Abbey in Missouri. For the rest of his life, as best he could, he maintained the monastic office of prayers every day.
He returned to Maryland due to the failing health of his Mother and settled in Salisbury. He did medical transcriptions at PRMC (presently TidalHealth Peninsula Regional).
His hobbies included photography, growing roses and orchids. He studied Shakespeare and loved opera. In all, George was a gentle, compassionate, and caring soul.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury on August 21, 2024 at 5:30 pm.
Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.hollowayfh.com.
