Gene E. Cooper Sr.

DELMAR - Gene E. Cooper Sr.of died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Willards, a son of the late James Wesley Cooper and Jeanette Evelyn (Truitt) Cooper. He worked for many years as a truck driver and mechanic for Central Penn. He was a gifted mechanic who worked on stock cars and dragsters in his free time. He and his late wife, Sandra, enjoyed camping at Roaring Point for many years; they considered their friends at the campground their extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Sandra Jean Riley Cooper. He is survived by two sons, Gene E. Cooper Jr. of Salisbury and Jimmy A. Cooper of Parsonsburg; a brother, James Leon "Toby" Cooper of Delmar; sisters, Mary Frances Timmons and Joan Evelyn Rickards of Parsonsburg; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery in Willards.
