Freida Ryan Heckler, 80

CAMBRIDGE - Freida Ryan Heckler, of Cambridge, died Sunday evening, Dec. 21, 2008, in Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was 80. Born on June 6, 1928, in James, Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Edward Ryan and H. Evelyn Bennett Ryan. Mrs. Heckler was a graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1945. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Harry Wilson "Sonny" Heckler. Mrs. Heckler had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 50 years. For 39 years, she worked at Richardson's Style Shop in downtown Cambridge. In 1996, she and her husband retired and moved to North Ft. Myers, Florida. They returned to Cambridge in 2004 due to health reasons. Mrs. Heckler always had a pleasant smile and a kind word. Her greatest joy was just spending time with her family and friends. Surviving besides her husband, is a son, Mark W. Heckler and his wife Jan of Cambridge; a daughter, Kelley Heckler Carouge and her husband David of Easton; five grandchildren, J. Ryan B. Heckler, Emily Heckler Ruark, Elysha Marie Carouge, David Trevor Bishop Carouge, and Mason Harrison Carouge; nephews, Leonard W. Dayton Jr., Jeffrey Scott Dayton and George Ray; and niece, Kimberly Ray Stypeck. Preceding her in death besides her parents, were a sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Leonard Dayton; two brothers, Walter Edward Ryan Jr. and Milton Ray; and a niece, Lenette Dayton Satchell. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High St., Cambridge. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with The Rev. Sam McWilliams officiating at the service. Burial will follow in the Eastern Shore Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
