There were changes by the Health Department to the schedule of free Naloxone (Narcan) training sessions after the deadline of the Aug. 24 edition of the Crisfield-Somerset County Times. The following is the corrected information.

WESTOVER — The Somerset County Health Department is sponsoring a Naloxone-athon on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Individuals who live and work in Somerset County will have access to free Naloxone (also known as Narcan) training that will certify them to administer the overdose reversal medication.

There will be various locations throughout the county where residents can complete the training; each participant will only need to attend one location. Somerset County Health Department staff will be available at the following locations and times:

• Marion Pharmacy: 9-9:45 a.m.
• Crisfield Library: 11-11:45 a.m.
• Woodrow Wilson Community Center: 10-10:45 a.m.
• Go Getters Princess Anne: 12-12:45 p.m.
• Princess Anne Library: 1-1:45 p.m.
• Karemore Pharmacy Princess Anne: 2-2:45 p.m.

The training is free and the medication is at no cost to participants. At the completion of the training, participants will have the knowledge and tools to administer the medication, and subsequently reverse an opioid overdose. This is a short condensed five step training that can be completed in approximately 15 minutes. The Naloxone-athon is a part of a larger effort in Somerset County to educate residents on proper prescription drug medication usage and disposal, as well as decreasing opioid fatality as a result of addiction and overdose.

Overdose Awareness Day is a national event held each year that aims to raise awareness of situations of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug related death.
