Posted

Frederick “Sonny” Wyatt Jr., of Harrington, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, Florida, with his devoted daughter, Jennie, who lovingly cared for him, and his family by his side.
Frederick “Sonny” Wyatt Jr. was born on March 1, 1943, at Milford Memorial Hospital to the late Frederick Wyatt Sr. and Anna Louise Wyatt. A lifelong Delawarean, he was raised in Harrington and graduated from Harrington High School. On October 11, 1965, Sonny married the love of his life, Joann Liska, in Burrisville, Maryland.
Sonny proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for six years, attaining the rank of Buck Sergeant. Throughout his career, he worked as a plumber for Joseph T. Richardson, later as a driver for Modern Gas of Harrington, and eventually retired from Tilcon after many years of dedicated service. A man of deep faith, Sonny was a devoted Christian. Even after he was no longer able to attend church in person, he faithfully watched church services from home and enjoyed taking notes during each message.
Sonny was a dedicated member of the Harrington Fire Company for more than six decades, having joined in November 1961. He served as President of the Delaware State Kent County  Fire Police Association. He retired from active Fire Police service in 2011.
He had a passion for collecting Hess trucks, antique cars, Matchbox cars, and fire service memorabilia. Sonny also loved music, especially country music, Elvis Presley, and the hits of the 1950s and 1960s. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joann Wyatt, and his brother, Jay Wyatt.
He is survived by his son, Frederick Wyatt III and his wife, Tamilyn, of Harrington; his three daughters, Jennie Saunders and her husband, Jason, of Florida, Lori Ann Gemmill and her husband, Danny, of Dover, and Shauna Beyer and her husband, Daniel, of Harrington. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles “Leroy” Wyatt and his wife, Joanne, of Hurlock, Maryland; Gary Wyatt and his wife, Donna, of Greenwood; John Wyatt and his wife, Debbie, of New Jersey; and Rick Wyatt and his wife, Rose, of Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the Harrington Fire Company, 20 Clark Street, Harrington, Delaware. Rev. Walton will officiate the service, deliver the eulogy, and offer a reflection in honor of Mr. Wyatt. Interment will immediately follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harrington Fire Company. Arrangements are entrusted to McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington, Delaware 19952.
