WINGATE - Frances J. Adams, 80, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Sunday, June 3, 2007.

She was born at Crapo on Dec. 23, 1926 and was a daughter of the late William Henry and Grace Thomas Wingate Bradford.

She attended schools at Crapo. On July 10, 1947 she was married to James Monroe Adams. Mr. Adams passed away on July 22, 1994.

She was a member of the Wingate United Methodist Church. Mrs. Adams was also a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lakes & Straits Volunteer Fire Co. She worked at I.F. Cannon, Co., Dorchester Crab, and Bradye Todd Seafood and later for J&T Seafood.

Mrs. Adams enjoyed cooking and spending time with her cats. She had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for the past four years.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry E. Adams and her companion, Kevin I. Mills of East New Market; one son, James M. Adams Jr. and his wife, Sandy Adams of Wingate; a granddaughter, Tammy Robinson and her husband, Tommy Robinson; a grandson, Tod Adams and his wife, Stephanie Adams; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Robinson, Lauren Robinson, Abby Robinson and James Evan Adams. She is also survived by a stepgranddaughter, Kara Jones and her husband, Lucas Jones and their children, Liam Jones and Elise Jones. She is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Wheatley of Crapo and Grace Lee Hall of Boothwyn, Pa., one brother, Franklin T. Bradford of Cambridge and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Brady H. Bradford and one sister, Lucille E. Burton.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. George W. Wheatley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans" Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakes & Straits Volunteer Fire Co., 2103 Farm Creek Road, Wingate, MD 21613 or to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be James M. Adams Jr., Kevin I. Mills, Tod Adams, Tommy Robinson, Christopher Robinson and Scott Fitzhugh.
