Posted

WESTOVER — Saturday, April 21, the Somerset County recreational complex at 30290 Sam Barnes Road in Westover will be transformed into a fun-filled free community event celebrating wellness and earth Day when the fifth annual Somerset Community Field Day takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drawstring bags will be handed out while supplies last. Raffles, food and drinks will be available all day. Shore Transit will be offering free transportation to and from the event from 9 to 1 from their Princess Anne and Crisfield locations.

Take a group walk along the walking trail at 10:30. Throughout the day, play old-fashioned field day games, shoot corn hole, dance, or navigate through an obstacle course. Learn about healthy eating at the cooking demonstration. Hear live music from local school bands and local deejays. Visit the many community vendors. Enjoy face painting and more activities at the Early Childhood Section. Groove to ‘On the Edge’ band with a concert on the lawn from 1 to 3 p.m.

“We encourage everyone to come join us at this year’s event to learn and participate in the many exciting things we are doing in this county to make it easier for people to be physically active,” says Clint Sterling, Recreation and Parks director. “It is a day to celebrate not just the health of our people but the health of our earth too.”

This combined Health and Earth Day event is again organized by Somerset County Recreation and Parks, the Somerset County Health Department and the Somerset County Judy Center.

“We are extremely grateful to our many sponsors who have made this year possible: Somerset County Recreation and Parks, the Somerset County Judy Center, the Somerset County Local Management Board, Somerset County Health Department, Chesapeake Health Care, Healthy Families Lower Shore, Sysco, Pepsi, Somerset County Public Schools, Delta Sigma Theta, and Focus Point Behavioral Health”, states Sharon Lynch, of the Somerset County Health Department.
