DELMAR - Esther Virginia Jones Mitchell, born Esther Ennis, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at Delmar Manor in Delmar. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Wilson and Georgia Moore Ennis. She graduated from Salisbury High School in 1948 and was an alumni of Bowie State State University. She taught Mathematics and History for 45 years in Caroline County. She served as a mentor and professional developer at Salisbury University, wherein she trained school teachers who were placed on assignment throughout the Wicomico County Public School System. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Beta Tau Chapter. Esther was a member of St. James Free Methodist Church in Head of the Creek. She is survived by a sister, Gloria Price Watson; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Frisby, Francis Brisco and Michelle Acededo; one stepson, Joshua J. Mitchell Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, James R. Jones and Joshua J. Mitchell Sr.; a sister, Lottie Elizabeth Edwards; five brothers, William Francis, Stanley Lee, Edgar Emerson, Elmer Roland and Charles Wilson Ennis; and her stepmother, Ruby Cook Ennis. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 21, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Salisbury. Interment was in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Arrangements are in the care of Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home in Salisbury.
