Ervin Edward Roden, 80 GALESTOWN - Ervin Edward Roden, 80, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Deer's Head Center in Salisbury where he had been a patient for the past year. Prior to his admission to Deer's Head, he had been a patient at Berlin Nursing Home for three years. Born July 28, 1927, in Pensacola, Fla., he was the son of the late Walter Roden and Josephine Backus Roden. Mr. Roden served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper, credited with 50 jumps. He married the former Betty Bennett Wells on Nov., 10, 1989. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children; Walter Roden, Sherry Ferguson, Debbie Bobbitt, and Eddie Wayne Roden all of Roanoke, Va.; four stepchildren, Connie Collins of Reliance, Jerry Wells of Seaford, Debbie McKamey of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Colleen Wells of Galestown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Roden and three sisters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans'Cemetery in Beulah. The Rev. Dan Walker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bill Collins, Bill Bennett, Leroy Wheedleton, Kenneth Bennett, Jeff Newton, and Jimmy Travers.
