Emma Mary Wilson
CAMBRIDGE – Emma Mary Wilson, 96, of Cambridge, departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at Chesapeake Woods Nursing Center.
She was born September 19, 1911 in Meekins Neck, daughter of the late Charles and Emma Meekins.
Mrs. Wilson attended the public schools of Dorchester County, She was employed at Phillips Packing Company for many years and later as a domestic worker. After her retirement she spent her time being a homemaker which she did meticulously until the age of 94.
As a young adult she married the late Andrew Camper. After his death she married George Wilson. This union lasted until his death, June 26, 1994.
She became a devoted Christian at an early age and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Harrisville. After moving to Cambridge she became a member of Bethel AME Church in Cambridge. She could be seen walking to church day or night. She was a dedicated member of the Brownie Cromwell Missionary Society. She served for a number of years as the worship leader for this society.
Mrs. Wilson loved her family and her home was always open to family and friends. She spent many days walking through the community and visiting with friends and neighbors both young and old. She loved to window shop.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Ressie Camper, Church Creek and Katherine Marine, Christ Rock; a sister in-law, Ida Wilson, Cambridge and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were seven brothers and eight sisters.
Services will be held on Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Bethel AME Church 623 Pine St., Cambridge. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
