CHURCH CREEK - Elsie Willey Foxwell, 83, passed away at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007.
She was born at Lakesville on May 19, 1924, and was a daughter of the late Solomon Rastall and Edith Insley Willey.
She attended schools at Woolford. She was first married to William A. Smith on July 2, 1944. Mr. Smith passed away on Jan. 30, 1980. On Nov. 22, 2002, she was married to James W. Foxwell.
She had worked at Smith Photography in Cambridge and later at Goldinger"s in Cambridge. She also worked as a clerk at the Church Creek Post Office and as a sales clerk at McCrory"s in Cambridge and later she worked at the MAC Center in Cambridge until she retired.
Mrs. Foxwell enjoyed growing flowers as well as bird watching.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Gale "Tony" Higgins and her husband, Ed Higgins of Culpepper, Va.; two sons, Dennis E. Smith and his wife, Linda T. Smith of Snow Hill, Gary W. Smith and his wife, Pat Smith of Cambridge; two stepsons, Wayne A. Smith and his wife, Elaine Smith of Cambridge; James W. Foxwell Jr. of Birdnest, Va.; five grandchildren, Sherri Cowell, Wayne Smith Jr., Lisa Baumgartner, Erica Beath, Christopher Beath; several great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert Willey of Linkwood, Burnice Willey of Woolford, Leroy Willey of Church Creek, Daniel Willey of Seaford and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by two stepsons William A. Smith Jr. and Robert Steven Foxwell; two sisters, Lenora Robinson, and Miranda Mowbray; and three brothers, Emmitt Willey, Wilbert Willey, and Orville Willey.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening.
