SALISBURY - Elmar Stroud Callahan Jr. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Maple Shade, N.J., he was known as "Junior" to his family and "Spider" to his friends. As a child, he moved to Easton and later settled in Salisbury. He was the son of the late Elmar Sr. and Mildred Callahan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ellen Callahan; five children: daughters Debbie Burton of Olney, Md., and Toni Phippin of Easton; sons Elmar "Bunky"Callahan of Salisbury, John Callahan of Severna Park and David Callahan of Sarasota, Fla; a sister, Betty Lucero, of Huntsville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death are four sisters: Dorothy Ozman, Adele Jefferson, Joan Hickman, Barbara Price; one brother, Joseph Callahan. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1948-1952 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950-1951. He worked his entire career at C&P Telephone Co., which later became Bell Atlantic and then Verizon, as an Outside Plant Cable Maintenance Manager. He retired in 1988. He also volunteered coaching youth basketball, baseball, and football for many years at the Salvation Army Boys club, Pony League baseball, and at St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
