'Betsey' Apple, 60 BERLIN - Elizabeth C. "Betsey" Apple died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. Betsey was a beloved and devoted, wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland, Class of 1962, and received her Master's Degree. She had taught special education for 20 years with the Worcester County Board of Education at Berlin Intermediate School. She dedicated her life to The Lord, her family, music, education, nature, and helping those in need. Born in Kensington, Md., she is survived by her parents, Malcolm Washington Gray and Mary Church Gray of Providence, R.I. She is also survived by her husband, George Richard Apple; and children, John Malcolm Apple and his wife Joscelyn of Berlin, and Mary Megan Martin and her husband Jon of Manhattan, N.Y.; step daughters, Chantal Gaasrud and her husband Halvor of Southbury, Conn., Michelle Elizabeth Crone and her husband James of Plantation, Fla. and Nicole Cummings of Berlin; and ten grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Alvis Weirman and her husband Frank of Bangladesh, and Ann Rothenburg and her husband Bob of Providence, R.I. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at 4 p.m. at St. Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City. Rev. David Dingwall will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to the Red Doors Community Center of St. Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 3rd St. and Baltimore Ave., Ocean City, MD 21842, Attn: Fawn Fitzgerald Mete. Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
