Elizabeth Bounds Pruitt

Elizabeth Bounds Pruitt, 89

TANGIER ISLAND, VA. - Elizabeth Bounds Pruitt, 89, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Harrisonburg Health and Rehab Center in Harrisonburg, Va.

Born in West Point, Va., on Feb. 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Charles Milton and Mary Emma Wood Bounds. Her husband, Charlie W. Pruitt, died Oct. 6, 1982.

Mrs. Pruitt was a graduate of West Point High School in West Point, Va., and Longwood College in Farmville, Va. She was a retired school teacher and taught for many years at Tangier Combined School on Tangier Island. She was also a faithful member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier Island, where she was organist for many years.

Mrs. Pruitt is survived by two sons, the Rev. Charles Edward Pruitt and his wife Portia of Harrisonburg, Va., and Marion Frank Pruitt and his wife Marguerite of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Ed Pruitt Jr., Frankie Pruitt, Gordon Pruitt, Chris Pruitt, Rebekah Sparks and Joshua Pruitt; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Bounds, and her sister.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier. The Rev. John Jones officiated and was assisted by several family members and speakers.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, Tangier, VA 23440.

Arrangements were in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, Crisfield.
