Dwayne Thirston Batson Sr., 36
CAMBRIDGE - Dwayne Thirston Batson Sr., of Cambridge, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Dorchester General Hospital. He was 36. He was born May 30, 1972, in Cambridge, son of Brenda Wilmer and Dwight Batson. Dwayne attended public school in Dorchester County and graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1990. He was employed with Bonanza, Allen Foods, and his last place of employment, Icelandic USA, Inc. for 16 years. He attended Chesapeake College and received his CDL certification. In 1989 Dwayne fell in love with his high school sweetheart and married the former Pelynda Palmer in 2000. From this union three children were born two daughters, Sherniece, 16, Sha'Brea, 7, and a son, Dwayne Batson Jr., 5. Dwayne attended Mt Calvary United Methodist Church in Preston. He was a loving and caring person with a kind heart. He loved to be with his family and friends. Always greeting you with his BIG smile. He had a grin that could light up the room and it will truly be missed by those who knew him. Dwayne, or "Catfish," as he was fondly called, passion for hot ride cars grew and grew over the years. He enjoyed many events that were held at Delmarva Race Way and loved sports. His favorite football team was the 49ers. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Mabel Cephas; and paternal grandfather, Sidney Batson. In addition to his wife, children and parents, Dwayne leaves to cherish his precious memory; a sister, Tracy Batson (Kirk) of Cambridge; a brother, Frankco Batson (Daisey) of Laurel, Del.; stepfather, Carl Wilmer; paternal grandmother, Henrietta Batson; aunts, Gloria Green (David), Margaret Hubbard (S. Lorenza), Cynthia Chester (Nathaniel), Katrina Bailey (David), and Tanya Batson; uncles, William (Essie), Douglas (Elaine), Jerome Cephas (Rose), Robert (Joyce), Fernandes (Valarie), Samuel, and Malcom Batson; goddaughter, Tonia Cephas; mother-in-law, Palechia Palmer; sister-in-law, Coristina Thaxton (Cyrano); brother-in-law, Mark Perkins (Hope); two nieces, Kirtoya Major and Vinessa Batson; three nephews, Tramarr, Kyree Majors, and Curtis Williams; a great-nephew, Kamari Major; special friend to father and family, Jeanette Sampson; best friends, Timothy Camper, Antonio Johnson "Big Eyes," Terry Wilson, Glen Sampson, and William Hill; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church, 22903 Dover Bridge Road, Preston, with a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Henry Funeral Home, 510 Washington St., Cambridge.
