EASTON - Dorothy Lee Simpkins, 75, passed away on Wednesday July 11, 2007 while visiting her daughter in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mrs. Simpkins is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Simpkins Jr.; her children, Dottie Steger of Burke, Va., Winfred Simpkins of Easton, Yvonne Rhine of Elizabeth City, N.C., Charles DeLeon Simpkins of Trappe, Katie Carter of Yantis, Texas, Gwen Simpkins of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Seretha Scott of Albuquerque, N.M.; her brother, Frank Strickland; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Born April 16, 1932, Dorothy was the daughter of the late DeLeon and Sonie Weston Strickland of Warsaw, N.C.
Gifted and innovative, she taught herself to upholster furniture. In 1981 she opened Simpkins Upholstery, where she remained until 2001.
Active in the community, she donated her time and resources to the YMCA of Talbot County, Memorial Hospital at Easton, and Easton High School.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Idlewild Ave., Easton, MD 21601.
