DENTON - Mother Dorothy I. Wilson Greer, 83, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007, at the Caroline Hospice House in Denton.

Born on March 25, 1924, and reared in Carroll County, Huntington, Tenn., she was the third child of the late Copie and Elizabeth Coleman Wilson.

Dorothy met and was united in holy matrimony for 48 years to the late Buster Sollie Greer. He preceded her in death in December 1987. The fami1y moved to Maryland in 1944, settling in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Greer had been employed at Caroline Poultry and privately sat for many prominent families in the area.

She was one of the founders and a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. At New Hope she was a member of the Senior Choir, Communion Stewart and the Deaconess Board.

She was also employed at the former Ross Ole Barn Bell Bakery in Denton for 13 years. She was famous for making cakes, pies and apple dumplings. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and singing.

Dorothy was the "mother of integration" for Caroline County in 1962. In 1991 she received the prestige honor of being Caroline County's "Most Beautiful Person" from then-Gov. William Donald Schaefer. She and her husband were foster parents for many children.

She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Dorothy Frances Dunnington, in January 2007.

Mrs. Greer is survived by her siblings, Ardell Newbill of Huntington, Tenn., Samuel A. Wilson of Henderson, N.C., William Nathanie1 Wilson of Hillsboro, Vernon Charles Wilson (Blanche) of Washington, D.C., Helen Mason of Denton, Norris Smith (Bonnie) of Phoenix City, Ala., Ellen Dotson of Preston and Grace Price of Fircrest, Wash.; her children - Mary G. Hackett of Framingham, Mass., David K. Greer of Wheaton, Carolyn Wilson-Hitch of Hillsboro, James M. Greer (Ella) of Oceanside, Calif., Ronald Cartnail of Frederick, Charlotte Seth (Marvin) of Greensboro, Jesse Holland of Nashville, Tenn., and Kathy Lynn Gibson (Craig) of Greensboro;23 grandchildren; 18 great; 2 great-great and son-in-law, Joseph Dunnington of Hillsboro.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Hillsboro. A celebration of her life w ill be under the leadership of Bishop Dane A. Coleman at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Denton and burial will be in Sandtown Cemetery in Hillsboro.
