CAMBRIGE – Dorothy G. Lewis, 88, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at Mallard Bay Care Center.

She was born in Cambridge on March 27, 1919 and was a daughter of the late Henry L. and Verdye Willey Gould.

Mrs. Lewis graduated in 1936 from Cambridge High School. On Dec. 22, 1939 she married William Earl Lewis who passed away on May 15, 1998.

Mrs. Lewis had worked for County Trust Bank; then to the Dorchester County Courts and returned to banking and was employed by Maryland National Bank for 25 years and retired as an assistant manager.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Lewis had attended Grace United Methodist Church and currently was attending the First Baptist Church in Cambridge. She was a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Cambridge Country Club, Quota International Club and the Maryland Association of Bank Women.

She is survived by two daughters, Denise L. Wheatley and husband, Charles S. "Chuck" Wheatley Sr. and Ann L. Webster and husband, Donald both of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Kelly D. Webster, Karey E. Webster, Stacey A. Wheatley, E. Shea Dawson and her husband, Andy of Wingate and Charles S. "Chance" Wheatley Jr.; one great-grandson, Andrew Steven Dawson and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a brother, Clarendon L. Gould.

A graveside service will be held noon Tuesday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery Chapel near Hurlock with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. 554, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
