CAMBRIDGE - Donnie Jamal Cooper Jr., 27, of 1039 Camelia Circle, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Born on Feb. 22, 1980, in Easton, he was the son of Shirlene Delores Mouring of Cambridge and Donnie Cooper Sr. of Hanes City, Fla.
D.J., as he was known, was a member of Christ Church of Universal Love in Hurlock.
Donnie attended Cambridge-South Dorchester from 1994-98, where he wrestled on many levels and earned a ranking of sixth in the country. He was an excellent artist, and won a contest which included a trip to the Governor's Mansion. He also attended Cambridge Vo-Tech Center, where he became a certified welder.
Music was his passion, and he often wrote songs and created beats.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Addie Mouring; and two uncles, Ronnie Mouring and John Mouring.
In addition to his parents, D.J. is survived by four children, Donnie Cooper III, Aniya Cooper, My'la McCready and Javon Thompson, all of Cambridge; four siblings, Javis Marshall, Trumaine Cooper and Quaterra Cooper, all of Hanes City, and Marcus Butler of Cambridge; five special aunts who were like a mother, Ann, Arlene, Rose, Bernadine, and his "Aunt Biggie"; five special cousins, James, Sterling, Richard, Donald, Mitisha and Tynesha; grandmother Alfair Sykes Boone of Hanes City; nine uncles; 12 aunts; a special friend Ebony White; and a number of cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 514 Race St., Cambridge.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Mace's Lane Middle School, Mace's Lane, Cambridge. Burial will be in the Thompsontown Chapel Church Cemetery, East New Market.
