Dolly W. Bastian

DELMAR - Dolly Bastian died Dec. 24, 2017, Born in Lock Haven, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Mahlon and Louise Winder. She moved to Delmar in 1962 when her husband, Dr. Wayne Bastian, began a teaching and administrative career at the Delmar School District.
She served as an instructional reading aide at Delmar Junior Senior High School. She served four years on the Delmar Town Council and 15 years as Treasurer of the Delmar Parks and Recreation Commission. She worked to develop the State Street Park and Tot Lot. She also spent many hours working in the Delmar Parks and Recreation concession stand at Gordy Field. She served as a chaperone for student field trips and volunteered at the Delmar Public Library. She also taught youth Sunday School classes at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church. She loved to knit and crochet afghans, sweaters and caps for infants at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. She also knitted 150 liner caps for military personnel serving in South Korea and Afghanistan.
She died on her and Dr. Bastian's 62nd wedding anniversary. She is survived by two children, Louise B. Cloninger of Crownsville, Md., and Joseph W. Bastian of Greely, Colo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Lois Wertman and Elinor Hallabuk; and a brother, James Winder Thomas Winder. Her other brother, Thomas Winder, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
