Dennis E. Baird

HURLOCK - Dennis E. Baird, 66, of Hurlock, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at his home. He was born in Rupert, Idaho, on March 5, 1945, and was a son of the late Edgar A. and Alice Cox Baird. Mr. Baird attended schools in Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1982 as a Warrant Officer. On July 3, 1993, he married the former Suzanne Coltman. At the time of his death, he was working at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. He enjoyed fishing and his 1966 Ford Mustang convertible. He was a member of the Elks in California where he served as the Exalted Ruler and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Baird of Hurlock; four children from his first marriage, Nathalie Besson of Idaho, Christopher Baird of Georgia, Lydia McKeel of Georgia and Carole Whetstone of Georgia; nine grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Boyd Groesbeck; and three nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Baird was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Groesbeck. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., today, April 13, 2011, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dale W. Kulp officiating. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shore Harvest Presbyterian Church, 8727-A Brooks Drive, Easton, MD 21601; or to the Friends of Blackwater, 2145 Key Wallace Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.
