BALTIMORE - Dekota Mae Wilson Stanley, 73, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Nov. 26, 1934 in Dorchester County, daughter of the late Clarence and Viola Wilson, she attended the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from F.D. St. Clair School, Class of 1952.
Dekota married Roland Jerome Stanley Sr. of Cordtown. Mr. Stanley preceded her in death. She attended Sunday School and joined Bethel AME Church of Cambridge at an early age.
For a few years, she resided in Cambridge and worked for Rob Roy Shirt Factory, later moving to Baltimore obtaining employment with the Sweetheart Cup Co. and Misty Harbor Coat Factory, where she was a supervisor. After retiring, she became a child care provider in Baltimore City, serving children from the Eastern Shore.
Parents found her to be a Nanny with many given skill for the job of caring and loving children. Many of them have grown-up and still call her mom. Keeping children was one of her joys
She is survived by six children, Joyce Carter, Velma Stanley, Roland Jerome Stanley II and Mark Stanley and LaKesha Brown, all of Baltimore and Master Sgt. Darren Stanley of Ray City, Ga.; grandchildren, Curtis James Jr., Roland Jerome Stanley III, Shanika Stanley and Lashawn Henderson, all of Baltimore; great-grandchildren, BreShae Gibbs and Shawn'e Bowens; granddaughter-in-law, Nichelle James; a sister, Gloria Bailey; a brother, Cokeland Wilson; sisters-in-law, Maelo Wilson, Diane Wilson and Elois Wright all of Cambridge and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Some of her special friends, Nettie Bracy, Cornell Baylor and Rennard Brooks, all of Baltimore.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by three sons, Kevin Stanley, Gregory Stanley and Todd Stanley, a granddaughter, Erica Herbert, two sisters, Gertrude Fisher and Altoe Wilson, three brothers, Sherwood, Yvon and Lawrence Jehew Wilson, mother in-law, Naomi Stanley, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a number of cousins and friends preceded her in death.
