Darlene Demby

CAMBRIDGE - Darlene Demby, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at the home of her granddaughter surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 31, 1950, daughter of the late George and Odessa Lewis. She was raised by Lula McCarter. Darlene received her education in the public schools of Dorchester County continuing her education at Sojourner Douglas College. She was employed with several companies with her last place of employment being Ocean Odyssey Seafood. There she was considered a professional crab picker. Darlene truly loved life to the fullest each and everyday. She never let any grass grow under her feet. She was always doing something, whether it was cooking, fishing, playing cards, yard sales, bingo and spending time with family just to name a few. When you saw her she was always dressed from head to toe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton P. Demby, whom she married Aug. 18, 1974; a son, Demetrius Demby; a sister, Alice Anderson; 4 brothers, Sander Lee, Roy, George and Leon Lewis Sr.; 9 brothers in-law; five sisters in-law; and a grandson, Demetrius Demby. She leaves to mourn, three daughters, Candy and Dominique Demby (Cambridge, Md.) and Reene Demby (Rhodesdale, M.); 9 grandchildren, Calvin Cornish (CJ), Sha'Quinda (Pumpkin) and De'Andra Demby, whom she helped raise as her own, Clifton (Mirna) Demby, Troy (Patrice) Cephas, Tr'Nay Cephas, Hydeia (Jerrod) Green, Khaz'mere and Kha'mere Demby, all of Cambridge; 4 great grandchildren, Serenity Cephas, Lyric Thomas, Clifton and Christian Demby; 2 sisters, JoAnne Anderson and Vicky Jolley; 3 brothers, Walt Lee, Willie and Eugene Lewis; 7 sisters in-law, Pearl Boggs, Patsy and Terry Demby, Annette, Milli Ann and Patricia Lewis and Margaret Blacknell; 4 step daughters, 7 step grandchildren; fourteen step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Sat., Feb. 13, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at St. John Holiness Church Edgewood Ave Cambridge with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in East New Market Cemetery.
