CAMBRIDGE - Claude J. Bailey, Jr., 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at his residence.

He was born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 26, 1924, and was the son of the late Claude J. and Catherine Osterman Bailey.

Mr. Bailey graduated from Maryland Park High School in 1942. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. On May 21, 1949, he married Rosella Bailey, who passed away on Feb. 23, 1994.

Mr. Bailey retired from the Metropolitan Police Department in 1972. He later worked at the Pentagon and retired in 1991.

Mr. and Mrs. Bailey moved to the Cambridge area full-time in 1993. He enjoyed traveling.

He was a member of American Legion Post 108 in Cheverly, Metropolitan Police Association, Neck District Volunteer Fire Co. and a past member of the Cambridge Country Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Bailey Andrews of New Carrollton; three sons, Paul Joseph Bailey of St. Peters, Mo., Phillip Vincent Bailey of Bucyrus, Mo., and Mark Steven Bailey Willow Street, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
