Christina Meland Messick, 63 SALISBURY, Md. - Christina Meland Messick, 63, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was cremated on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Christina was born April 13, 1946, in Salisbury, to the late Emmett and Ada Meland. Christina was a 1964 graduate of Wicomico Senior High School and was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Christina Meland and Chip Messick were married at Bethesda United Methodist Church by Reverend Kenneth Rose on July 8, 1967. She was a cosmetologist for Benjamin's Department Store in Salisbury and Woodward & Lothrop in Washington, D.C. She assisted and was a companion to handicapped children and senior citizens as a social worker via the Fellowship Friends Association of Lock Raven United Methodist Church of Baltimore. She was a real estate agent for Luci Grant Kaughman in Cambridge and Ates Hanna McLaughlin in Salisbury. Christina is survived by her husband, Newell W. "Chip" Messick III of Salisbury; her children, Paul C. Messick and his wife, Michele, and children, Ashley M. Schmidt and her husband, Steven, of Cambridge, Christopher B. Messick, Sarah E. Messick, Hanna K. Messick, and Benjamin A. Messick of Salisbury; Margie M. Rus and her husband, Jason, of Newark, Md.; a sister, Paula M. Donophan and her husband, Charles, and child, Thomas Adkins, of Salisbury; a brother-in-law, Kirke P. Messick, and his wife, Pandora, and child, Sean E. Messick, of Salisbury; and, a brother-in-law, Harry Alley, and children, Erin, Kendrick, and Katelyn of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leslie Juliette Alley, who died in 1992. Christina was always cordial, honest, loyal, trustworthy, forthright, and sincere to all of those she met; and, she did not hate anyone, no matter what. She dearly loved her husband, her children and grandchildren, all of her family, friends, acquaintances, the sun, surf, shells, seashore, thunderstorms, snow, Christmas, seasonal decorations, conversation, writing poetry, reminiscence, people, fashions, cooking, The Waltons, dancing, and the Beach Boys. For those that knew her, to be in her presence was a jovial, educational, pleasant, love-filled, and rewarding experience which we all shall cherish and remember forever. A memorial service will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at Holloway Funeral Home. Family, friends, and acquaintances may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 406 N. Division Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.
