Charles Ridgely "Chuck" Gaither, of Crisfield, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at his home.
Born in Sykesville, MD on November 17, 1950, he was a son of the late Charles William and Helen Louise Ridgely Gaither.
He was a 1968 graduate of South Carroll High School in Carroll County. He served four years in the US Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in June 1973. Several years later, Chuck began his career in Maryland Division of Correction as a Correctional Officer. He worked at several institutions statewide and was instrumental in the opening of Eastern Correctional Institution in 1987 until he retired as a Captain in 1996. After he retired from ECI, he owned and operated his barbershop, “Chuck’s Barber Shop”. It was opening his barbershop that he found absolute joy in cutting hair and talking to anyone and everyone who walked through the door offering a cup of coffee, a haircut, and sharing a fishing story. There was not a single person he could not have a conversation with and enjoyed every minute of it.
Chuck also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family dearly and was a friend to many to include strangers and those that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Lillian Young Gaither of Crisfield; sons, Charles “Chuck" Gaither of Timonium and Darien Young of Crisfield; daughter, Amy Gaither Gragg and husband Jamie of Crisfield; sisters, Susan Gaither of Crisfield and Judy Brandt and husband John of Manchester; and grandchildren Jacob Gragg, Caleb Gragg, Sarah Gaither, Andrew Gaither, William Vogel, and Willow Young.
Memorial services at Bradshaw &\ Sons Funeral Home were held at 1 pm on Monday, January 20, 2025. A visitation was from 11 am-1 pm. Rev. Stephen S. Willing officiated.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
