Charles Lloyd Shorter

CHESTERTOWN - Charles Lloyd Shorter, Jr., died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Chestertown. Mr. Shorter was born Nov. 16, 1952 in Cambridge, the son of the late Charles Lloyd Shorter, Sr. and Gloria "Meredith" Shorter. He graduated from Cambridge High School and went to work full time for Dorchester County Roads, where he had been working part-time before graduation. In the early 90's he moved to Tolchester with his wife. He went to work for Brambles as a heavy equipment operator, but in the late 90's he injured his back and became disabled. Mr. Shorter enjoyed watching car shows, Pawn Stars and Street Outlaws on TV, reading his Bible and spending time with his friends and his two dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Penny Mills; and one cousin, Phil Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Joiner Shorter, of Chestertown; three sons, Charles L. Shorter, III, of Cambridge, Jason Shorter, of South Carolina, and Mark Shorter, of Middletown, Del.; one sister, Cindy Bailey, of Valrico, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Vallie and Ellie Shorter. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Humane Society of Kent County, P.O. Box 352 Chestertown, MD 21620. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
