CAMBRIDGE - Celia Mae Cornish quietly and peacefully slipped away to eternity January 10, 2014 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester in Cambridge. Celia Mae was born in Sagefield. She was the daughter of the late Zachary Young and Lula Vaughn Young. She was educated in the public schools in Dorchester County. Her social and spiritual lives revolved around her family and churches. In 1946, she married the late Herbert Melvin Cornish, Sr. From this union eight children were born. They raised their family in a Christian environment. In her earlier life, she worked in several canning factories, including Trappe Frozen Foods. She retired from Cold Water Seafood Company. Celia Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Wesley Mission Church before moving to Aireys, Maryland where she became a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She held several positions in the church. These positions included: secretary of the church, an usher, a member of the United Methodist Women organization, member of the Aireys and Charge choirs, chairperson of the Sick-and shut-in Committee and a member of the Cemetery Committee. She found a special friend in Jesus, and her relationship had become more stronger throughout the years. She loved to listen to Heaven 600. When she prayed, she always gave a powerful prayer from her heart. Her favorite hymns were What A Friend We Have in Jesus and He Touched Me. Celia Mae was preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Jr. and Walter; four brothers, Hillary, Herbert, Harvey and Russell; five sisters, Rose, Agie, Dorothy, Leila and Lena. Celia Mae leaves to cherish her memories, five daughters, Barbara Thompson (George) of Aireys, Brenda Fields of Cambridge, Kathy Cornish of Cambridge, Karen Adeby of Washington, D.C., Sharon Scott of Washington, D.C.; one son, Alfonso Cornish I of Louisville, Ky.; four grand-children, Samuel Hughes, Jr., Alfonso Cornish II, Anthony Cornish and Deitra Cornish; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Hughes III, Zoe Hughes and Bella Cornish; one daughter- in-law, Jockolette Cornish of Baltimore; one former daughter-in-law, Wilhemina Cornish of Upper Marlboro; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Boston and Mary Lee both of Baltimore; a special niece, Mildred Jones; a life-long friend, Asbury Jones; special caregiver, Cherrie Jiles; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church Aireys with a viewing 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at Henry Funeral Home PA Cambridge and one hour prior to service.
