SECRETARY - Carroll A. Sneed died Jan. 10, 2018 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Born in Anson County, North Carolina on Sept. 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Henry Sneed and Eula Terry Thompson.
He was raised in Marshville, N.C. and attended high school in Monroe, N.C. He worked at the General Motors Plant in Baltimore, retiring in 1985 after thirty years. In 1971 he married Jean Fitzhugh Blades and they operated an antique shop for the next sixteen years, working in the evenings. In 1987 he purchased the Secretary Elementary School building and in 1992 they opened a costume jewelry shop.
Carroll was a quiet, gentle person. He was a master self-taught architect, and could make stained glass windows equal to the quality of Tiffany. His iron work on one of his antique shops was recognized by the Baltimore Sun as one of the best in the city. His love for antique lamps was extraordinary and he made several Czechoslovakian glass fruit lamps. He continued remodeling the school until ten years ago due to his failing health. He died from a broken hip, pneumonia, and kidney disease. The world has lost and extraordinary, talented man.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Fitzhugh Sneed; a daughter, Sherri Sneed of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Carroll Sneed, Jr. of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Jo-Ann Wilson and husband Richard of Cambridge; a niece, Bobbi-Jo Hayton of Easton and a nephew, J.R. Wilson of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and William Sneed and two sisters, Ruth Earle and Addie Tyler.
Funeral services are private. Arrangements are in the care of Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.
