Carl “Melvin” Castell, 97

Carl “Melvin” Castell of Dover, DE passed away peacefully Saturday, January 10, 2026 surrounded by his family. He left on his final journey to be with the love of his life wife, Kay, to whom he was married for 65 wonderful years.
Mel was born on August 13, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late Carl A. Castell and Elsie Berggren.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay Castell. Mel is survived by his children: Thomas E. Castell (Donna) of Leominster, Massachusetts (MA), Ann C. Altemus (Ed Pedrick) of Newark, DE, Roy M. Castell of Plant City, Florida (FL), and Robert A. Castell (Beth) of Drexel Hill, PA. Mel is survived by his grandchildren, James and RT of MA, Tom W. Altemus of DE, Emilie Isis Altemus (Marcus Mcmahon) of MD, Alec Castell of DE, Erik Castell (Michelle), Nicole Castell and Jaclyn Matty (Nicholas) of PA. His great grandchildren are Scarlett Ann Matty and Carter Robert Matty.
The family extends great appreciation to all at Westminster who took care of Mel. They all did an excellent job.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 Friday, January 16th, 2026 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901. Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the services for visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Westminster Village Benevolent Support Fund, 191 Westminster Drive, Dover, DE 19904.
