SAN JOSE, Calif. - Bernice May Edner, of San Jose, formerly of Vienna, Md., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 94 years of age. Born on Oct. 5, 1916, Bernice was the daughter of Cyrus May and Dora Ellis May and was a member of Vienna United Methodist Church. She graduated from Vienna High School in 1934 and was a graduate of Easton Emergency Hospital's School of Nursing (now Memorial Hospital at Easton). After additional schooling at the University of Pennsylvania, Bernice became the Operating Room Supervisor at Easton Hospital for 10 years. After joining the U.S. Army Reserves as a 1st Lieutenant, she moved to California. On Dec. 28, 1951, Bernice married Marvin G. Edner who passed away in July of 1973. Survivors include two daughters, April Edner and Debbie Henshall and husband James Henshall; one granddaughter, Katie Henshall; and one grandson, Brandon Henshall. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret May Nixon of Bethel, Del., and Helen May Malkus of Cambridge, Md.; one brother-in-law, Melvin Koster of Seaford, Del.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Edner was predeceased by three sisters, Pauline May of Vienna, Md., Ruth May Collier of Baltimore, and Marian May Koster of Seaford, Del. A graveside service was held on May 27, 2011, at Los Gatos Memorial Park in Los Gatos, Calif.
