Ben Franklin III

CRISFIELD - Ben Franklin III, 55, of Crisfield, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield. Born in Crisfield on April 10, 1956, he was a son of Fay Milbourne Franklin of Crisfield and the late William Benjamin "Ben" Franklin Jr. who died Sept. 11, 1985. A retired correctional officer at Eastern Correctional Institution, he was a 1974 graduate of Crisfield High School and obtained his AA Degree from Florida University. He was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the ham radio ARRL and he loved his pet yorkie puppies, Gracie and Odie. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cathy Vonderembse Franklin of Crisfield; his son, Benjamin Michael Franklin of Crisfield; two step-children, Maria Barry of Crisfield and Raymond Barry of Thurmont, Md.; his sister, Patti Curtis and her husband Doug of Crisfield; and his nephew, Doug Curtis, Jr. of Crisfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Sam Horner officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406, Crisfield, MD 21817.
