Audrey L. Webster

Audrey L. Webster CAMBRIDGE - Audrey Lee Chambers Webster passed away, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge. Born in Easton on March 24, 1922, she was the daughter of the Dewey and Effie Perry Chambers. She was educated in schools in Preston and graduated from Preston High School, Class of 1939. On Jan. 10, 1942 she married the late D. Raymond "Steve" Webster. During her husband's World War II service she lived in several different cities along the east coast. After the war, the family settled in Secretary where she was a homemaker and assisted in the family business, D. M. Webster and Son Hardware. She was later employed at Chun King Corporation and also served as a crossing guard for the City of Cambridge. She and her husband also owned and operated Webster's Mini Quik in Secretary. Before retiring in the late 80's they also managed McCord's Laundry in Cambridge. She was a past member of the Hurlock American Legion Post 243 Ladies Auxiliary, BPOE Lodge #1272 in Cambridge, and Cambridge Yacht Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For the past ten years. She resided in Church near her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude "Dewey" Chambers. She is survived by a daughter, Janice Webster Hughes and her husband K. Scott Hughes, Sr. of Madison; two grandchildren, Dale B. Wheatley and his wife Phyllis of Church Creek and Shelly Hughes Jones and her husband Gordy, Jr. also of Church Creek; three great-grandchildren, Justin C. Wheatley, S. Patrick Hughes, and Anna J. "Janna" Jones; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Pauline Willey Sands of Cambridge as well as two nieces, a nephew, and many cousins. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. David Tolley will officiate. Interment will follow at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery.
