Corey Seager hits a 2-run homer in his Rangers return, snapping an 0-for-29 skid

SUMMARY: Corey Seager homered to end a career-worst 0-for-29 slump after being activated from the injured list. The five-time All-Star shortstop had missed 19 games for the Texas Rangers because of lower back inflammation. Seager hadn’t played since May 13 before the 3-2 win over Cleveland on Friday night. The Rangers also activated Wyatt Langford, who doubled ahead of Seager’s homer in the sixth inning. The outfielder missed 39 games with a right forearm strain. To make room on the roster, Cody Freeman and Alejandro Osuna were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Seager and Langford played in two rehab games together at Double-A Frisco.

BKN--NBA FINALS-SPURS-WEMBANYAMA

A comeback to savor, a finish to forget. Wemby and the Spurs let Game 2 of the NBA Finals get away

SUMMARY: Victor Wembanyama described himself in a rather unusual way when Game 2 of the NBA Finals was over on Friday night. “Very blurry,” Wembanyama said. As such, the San Antonio Spurs’ situation is very clear. They’re in trouble. Big trouble. And Wembanyama pointed the finger of blame squarely at himself. The Spurs had an epic comeback and an epic disaster in the same fourth quarter, falling to the New York Knicks 105-104 — after a finish that Wembanyama likely won’t be able to forget anytime soon.

Wemby misses at the end, Knicks beat Spurs 105-104 for 2-0 lead in NBA Finals

SUMMARY: Go crazy, New York. Or, perhaps more accurately, crazier. The red-hot Knicks are going home, two wins away from an NBA championship that the capital of the world has been waiting to see for generations. Jalen Brunson hit a go-ahead free throw with 9.5 seconds left after a turnover by Victor Wembanyama moments earlier, then Wembanyama missed a jumper at the end of New York’s 105-104 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night for a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals. Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Brunson and Mikal Bridges each scored 20 for the Knicks — who have now won 13 straight, the second-longest streak by any team in NBA playoff history.

Texas Tech’s appeal to NCAA for Sorsby reinstatement denied, according to AP source

SUMMARY: Texas Tech’s appeal to the NCAA to reinstate Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility has been denied. That decision is separate from the transfer quarterback’s lawsuit against the NCAA. A person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday night that the NCAA denied Texas Tech’s petition for a second time. Sorsby was ruled ineligible after admitting to wagering on sports, including his own team while at Indiana. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because there was no announcement about the appeal decision from either the NCAA or the quarterback’s current school. The NCAA and Sorsby are awaiting a ruling from a Texas judge after the QB filed a lawsuit May 18. A hearing was held Monday, but no decision has been made yet.

The team had moved its training base to Tijuana, Mexico, because of problems with processing the visas. But the visas have now been approved, according to U.S. officials speaking on condition of anonymity. Iran’s participation in the World Cup has been complicated by the ongoing war with Israel and the United States. SUMMARY: Alexander Zverev is within one victory of an elusive Grand Slam title. Zverev has reached the fourth major final of his career with a four-set victory over 20-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik in the French Open semifinals. In Sunday’s final Zverev will face 14th-ranked Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli advanced when 104th-ranked Matteo Arnaldi withdrew before their semifinal due to a virus. Zverev has been an overwhelming favorite for the title ever since the top-ranked Jannik Sinner struggled in the first week’s heat wave and wasted a two set and 5-1 lead against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round. Two-time reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the tournament with an injured right wrist.
