US--TIGER WOODS CRASH

Tiger Woods’ prescription drug records will be handed over to prosecutors in Florida DUI case

SUMMARY: A judge has ruled that Tiger Woods’ prescription drug records will be handed over to prosecutors following his March arrest in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence. A judge approved an agreement between Woods’ defense attorney and prosecutors following a four-minute hearing in Martin County circuit court. Prosecutors had issued a subpoena seeking copies of all prescription medication records for the legendary golfer from the start of the year through the end of March. Woods’ attorney acknowledged during the hearing that the right to privacy is not absolute and that prosecutors could make a compelling argument for why they were needed. Prosecutors agreed to the defense attorney’s request for a protective order limiting who can access the records.

SOC--WCUP-HOTEL DEMAND

US hotel operators say promised boon from hosting World Cup hasn’t materialized yet

SUMMARY: U.S. hotels say the promised economic boon from the World Cup hasn’t materialized yet for them. The American Hotel & Lodging Association recently released a report that found room bookings are lighter than expected in most of the 11 U.S. host cities with roughly a month to go before the start of the most watched sports tournament in the world. The group’s survey found that in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle, nearly 80% of hotels responding reported the pace of bookings was tracking behind a typical summer. Experts say the weaker-than-expected demand shouldn’t have come as a surprise to hotel operators.

CAR--INDYCAR-RULE CHANGE

Delayed full-course caution in Indianapolis GP prompts IndyCar officials to make rule change

SUMMARY: IndyCar officials will no longer consider the running order of cars or the pit windows to determine when to throw a full-course caution. The move comes three days after an angry Alexander Rossi criticized the series for delaying the implementation of a full-course yellow when his car stalled on the front straightaway next to the concrete wall and out of the standard racing line during Saturday’s Indianapolis Grand Prix. He eventually climbed out of his car and over the wall before walking to his pit stall. Race officials initially responded by throwing a local yellow. They threw a full-course yellow on the next lap.

BKN--THUNDER ADVANCE

The Oklahoma City Thunder say they aren’t perfect. The champs’ 8-0 playoff record is spotless anyway

SUMMARY: The Oklahoma City Thunder insist they haven’t been perfect during their NBA title defense. Their record at the halfway point disagrees. The Thunder completed their second straight series sweep of the spring when they held off the resilient Lakers 115-110 in Game 4 of the second round. Oklahoma City went 8-0 against LeBron James and the Lakers this season, and the defending champs are also 8-0 in these playoffs after back-to-back routs of Phoenix and Los Angeles. The Thunder are unquestionably the class of the NBA as they seek the NBA’s first back-to-back championships since Golden State did it 2017 and 2018.

SUMMARY: LeBron James says he has no idea whether his 24-point performance in the Los Angeles Lakers’ second-round playoff loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder was the final game of his NBA career. The top scorer in league history stuck to the plan he has taken into the past several summers when he declined to announce his future immediately after the Lakers’ final postseason defeat.
