FARMVILLE, VA - Annie Mae Dean, formerly of Cambridge and Woolford, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 in Farmville, where she had lived since March 7, 1998. She was 88. She was born on April 5, 1920 in Eastville, Va., the daughter of the late Claude C. Doughty Sr. and Yula Gregory Doughty Owens. Mrs. Dean attended schools in Virginia, graduating in 1937 from Cheritin High School. She entered the Cambridge Maryland Hospital School of Nursing in 1938, graduating in 1941, and became a registered nurse. She worked as a private nurse, retiring in 1973 due to health problems. On March 3, 1941, she married William L. Dean Jr. He died on Aug. 23, 1993. As a young woman, Mrs. Dean was active in Zion United Methodist Church of Cambridge, and also the Crescent Class. She was preceded in death by several brothers and a sister. Mrs. Dean is survived by a daughter, Cindy D. Prabl and her husband Wilmer of Beaufort, S.C.; a son, William L. Dean III and his wife Tina of Lynchburg, Va.; two grandsons, William L. Dean IV of Richmond, Va., and Todd M. Dean of Williamsburg, Va.; a great-grandson; three great-granddaughters; a brother; and several nieces and nephews. Services and burial will be at a later date. Remembrances may be made in her memory to the Prince Edward Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 381, Farmville, VA 23901. Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. of Farmville is in charge of arrangements.
