Anne Engram Hurst, 90

SEAFORD, Del. - Anne Engram Hurst, of Seaford, formerly of Vienna, Md., died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Born May 31, 1918, near Galestown, she was the daughter of the late Victor Clyde Wheatley and Nettie Mae Smith Wheatley. She graduated from Hurlock High School in 1934. Over the years she worked for Maryland Plastics and Borden Chemical and retired from the Department of Social Services in 1984. She married Granville Hurst on Oct. 9, 1970. Mrs. Hurst was a member of Vienna United Methodist Church where she was the recording secretary from 1970 to 1999, a member of the church choir, and treasurer of the church memorial fund. She was also a member of United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Vienna Homemakers Club and Union Methodist Church in Federalsburg, Md. Mrs. Hurst is survived by two grandsons, Brent Engram and Shane Engram both of Bear; a great-grandson, Lucas Engram; a stepson, J. Stephen Hurst of Vienna, Md.; two nephews, Tom Wheatley and Ronald Ford; three nieces, Deborah Patey, Sue Ellen Wilkens, and Sharon Ann Whaley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Irving Engram who died in 1956; a son, Terry Engram; her second husband, James Granville "Flats" Hurst who died in 2001; three brothers, Woolston S. Wheatley, W. James Wheatley, and Victor Brooks Wheatley; and a sister, Hilda V. Ford. Funeral service were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 in Vienna United Methodist Church. Rev. Kim Gilson and Pastor Barbara Wilson officiated. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg, Md. Ronald Ford, Frankie Wheatley, Vincent Whaley, Ronnie Patey, and Tom Wheatley served as pallbearers. Donations in memory of Mrs. Hurst may be made to Wheatley Church Preservation Fund, c/o Beverly Wheatley, 5833 Wheatley Church Road, Seaford, DE 19973. The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.
