CRISFIELD - Ann Ward Lawson was called home to be with her Lord and her family on Sunday, October 10, 2021.
Born in Crisfield on May 30, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Francis Creston and Lillian Wilson Ward.
Ann was married to her "high school sweetheart" for 43 years, Alfred "A.J." Lawson, III, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2006.
She was a graduate of Crisfield High School, the Bard Avon Secretarial School in Baltimore, and continued her education at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury. She worked for many years in the family owned and operated grocery business in Bethany Beach, Del. and Dairy Queen in Fenwick Island, Del. Ann and A.J. were founders of the Bethany Bakery where she became known for her cakes. For many years she made wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes for many people in the area. She was also employed with the Department of Social Services with the State of Maryland, former Scher's Clothing Store, former Carvel Hall, McCready Hospital, Scott Tawes & Associates, and retired from Wilson Realty in Crisfield.
Ann loved her Lord as a member of First Baptist Church in Crisfield for many years. She was a true believer in mission emphasis and was a member of the Girls In Action, "GAs" as a child and teenager, and served as Leader of the Women's Missionary Union for numerous years. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher for the young adults class, and active in forming and continuing the Veda Smart women's circle. She continued her service of the Lord as member of Christ Fellowship Bible Church in Marion Station when she felt the Lords calling to join there.
Her hobbies included scrapbooking and wreath making, decorating, and anything involving and using her creativity. She loved flowers, gardening, and spending time outside whenever she was able. She loved her family, spending time with her children and grandchildren, family gatherings, reading, and traveling. She also loved Southern Gospel Quartets and attending concerts. She cherished and loved her pets dearly including her beloved Barney, who will be buried with her. She leaves behind a special Scottish Terrier named Reagan and a West Highland Terrier named Sandi, "her babies."
Ann was an avid Delmarva Shorebirds fan and enjoyed attending games with her son, Matt, and their shorebirds "family" whenever the team was in town. She was definitely a "social butterfly" with her friends at the ballpark. She also enjoyed going to other minor league ball parks of the Baltimore Orioles system and following players as they advanced in their careers.
She was loved by all who knew her and had a smile which always brightened things up wherever she was present.
She is survived by her children, Matthew J. Lawson and Lee Ann Marsh and her husband Chuck, all of Crisfield; grandchildren, Caleb Lawson, Joshua Lawson, Isaac Lawson, Noah Lawson, Emma Laird, and Alexandra Laird; a brother, Steve Ward and his wife Tara of Crisfield; a special niece, Lori Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at Christ Fellowship Bible Church on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11 a.m. A viewing was held at the church Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. Rev. Stephen S. Willing officiated and interment followed at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are wished to be sent to the Christ Fellowship Bible Church Mission Fund, 5910 Crisfield Highway, Marion Station, MD 21838.
