SALISBURY, Md. - Albert Augustus Newcomb Jr., of Salisbury, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at the Anchorage Nursing Home in Salisbury. He was 88. Born in Laurel, he was the son of the late Albert Augustus Newcomb Sr. and the late Marion Donaldson Newcomb. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He managed the Modern Cleaners in Princess Anne for 30 years retiring in 1982. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Painter Newcomb, whom he married on May 13, 1944, at Yeadon, Pa.; three children, Joal Smith of Bend, Ore., Kathleen Bahen of Stuart, Fla., and Barbara Schulte of Ellicott City; a brother, D. Edmund Newcomb of Salisbury; and a sister, Virginia Carroll of Trappe. A graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Cambridge. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday at Holloway Funeral Home. Rev. Howard Travers will officiate. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
