Runners of all ages, 100 in all, took part in the YMCA’s Turkey Trot on Thaksgiving Thursday at the Pauline F. and W. David Robbins Family YMCA. And while fitness is always a worthy goal, and burning extra calories probably advisable on this day in particular, there was another reason for the athletes to turn out. “Proceeds from the Y’s 2018 Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K benefit children across the Eastern Shore who live at or below the federal poverty level so that they can attend Y programs that keep them safe and engaged,” a statement online said. Individuals of all ages and abilities, and even their pet dogs, were welcome to run or walk a 3.1-mile course beginning at 8:30 a.m., “to soak in the feel-good vibes of the day,” the statement said. The event has become something of a Thanksgiving tradition in the area, and pulls in participants from out of town as well. One of the attractions of the trot is that while it is pretty much a casual affair, it is timed. That means that athletes in training can use it to test themselves in race conditions. The overall male winner was; overall female winner Rebecca Fox finished in 22:29. The top 10 finishers were: 1 — Morgan Baxter, 17:56 2 — Trevor Goodwin, 19:26 3 — Michael Dijulia, 19:32 4 — Chris Hollerman, 19:51 5 — Rebecca Fox, 22:29 6 — Dean Goodwin, 23:02 7 — Jason Matthews, 23:07 8 — Justin Trombetta, 23:10 9 — Sara Robinson, 23:37 10 — Shane Foxwell, 23:38 Full results are posted on the Dorchester Banner’s Facebook page.
