William R. Dennis, 85
SALISBURY - William R. Dennis went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Salisbury on February 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Paul E. Dennis and Pauline Burbage Dennis.
In his early years, Bill worked for Dresser Industries as well as worked doing harness racing where he was an owner, trainer and driver. He was a member of the first graduating class of correctional officers for Eastern Correctional Institute (ECI) where he worked until his retirement in 1997. Following his retirement from ECI he worked part time for Harvard, dedicating 20 years to the company before it's closing.
Bill will be remembered as the original recycler, collecting metal and taking things apart in order to recycle the parts. He also loved spending time with his family and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents; Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Burbage Dennis, Norma Lee Webster Carr, Samuel R. Dennis and Paul "Rusty" Dennis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara G. Dennis of Salisbury; four children, Deborah Dennis of Hebron, Aaron Dennis of Preston, Rodney Sullivan and his wife Kelly of Salisbury and Brent Sullivan of Salisbury. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jared, Grant, Colleen, Amanda, Camryn and Khloe; and several nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Steve Wagner will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
