CHURCHVILLE - William Lee Lurton died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at Bayview Medical Center. Born in Onancock, Va., he was the son of the late Earl and Geneva (Beasley) Lurton. As a young boy his family moved to Crisfield where he later graduated from Crisfield High School. Mr. Lurton retired from the Harford County Board of Education, having taught for 30 years at Aberdeen Middle School. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church, he had been an usher, for many years and supported other ministries including the Food Pantry. He enjoyed reading, traveling, listening to classical music and working in his yard and was very involved with the Aberdeen Masonic Lodge #187 and the Victory Order of the Eastern Star #40. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Evans) Lurton; brother, Earl Lurton and his wife, Fritze; four nephews; and several cousins. A visitation was held at the Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. where a funeral service conducted by Rev. Robert Clipp was at 11 a.m. Interment was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. Contributions in his memory may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 110 W. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001.
