William J. Langrall, 86
CHURCH CREEK - William J. Langrall, 86, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
He was born in Cambridge on Dec. 27, 1921, and was a son of the late William Harrison and Eugenia May Flowers Langrall.
Bill attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1938, and as a young man had worked with his father as a mate on a tug boat. During WW II he served as an airplane mechanic in the US Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Memphis and later served on Guam.
On Aug. 6, 1944 he was married to the former Jane Batten at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge. Some years ago he worked for the C&P Telephone Co. and also worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. in Salisbury. For many years Bill worked as an agent for the State Farm Insurance in Cambridge. He had retired from State Farm several years ago.
Bill was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he had served as Lay Leader and had been active in the choir, Sunday School and numerous other areas in the church.
He was a member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and Dorchester Post 91 American Legion. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing bridge, boating, reading and camping. He had been in failing health for the past several years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane B. Langrall of Church Creek; one daughter, Alison L. Romano and her husband, Dominic M. Romano of Baltimore; four sons, William R. Langrall and his wife, Pamela R. Langrall of Ft. Payne, Ala., Alan E. Langrall and his wife. Cynthia W. Langrall of Normal, Ill., J. Douglas Langrall and his wife, Teri L. Langrall of Cambridge and David S. Langrall and his wife, Nicolette C. Langrall of Hurlock; 13 grandchildren, Harry Romano, Angelina Chilcoat, Dominic Romano Jr., Jane Deforge, Martin Langrall, Jade Langrall, Hayden Langrall, Kylie Langrall, Jennifer Cook, Heather Langrall, Amber Langrall, Tony McDuffie Jr., Kristina McDuffie and five great-grandchildren, Isabella Chilcoat, Leo Chilcoat, Brian Deforge Jr., Alison Deforge and Taylor Cook. He is also survived by two nephews, William S. McQuay and John H. McQuay and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice McQuay, and a brother, Paul Langrall.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William R. Langrall, Alan E. Langrall, J. Douglas Langrall, David S. Langrall, Dominic M. Romano, Dominic Romano Jr. and Harry Romano.
